The Sound of Us Foundation was born out of personal tragedy and transcendent joy. While spending nearly two years in hospitals with my son, Shiah, music was a lifeline—a source of peace amid chaos. Playing for fellow patients revealed to me art’s deeper purpose: to heal, to lift, to connect.

On a journey to Mozambique, I encountered a church with no roof, cracked walls, and dirt floors. Despite its physical ruin, it overflowed with joy, faith, and a profound sense of community. When a local woman offered me a single coin in gratitude—though she had so little herself—the weight of that gesture shifted something in me.

That moment sparked a mission: record this raw, heartfelt music in its truest setting, honor those voices, and let them reach communities around the world. The Sound of Us Foundation aims not only to provide practical help—like rebuilding, food, clothing, and shelter—but to cultivate art with purpose: art that speaks truth, fosters hope, and reminds us of our shared humanity.
